Profile

Lizzy was named Tower Hamlets Gardener of the Year 2023 at the Tower Hamlets in Bloom Awards for her voluntary work behind-the-scenes at Cranbrook Community Food Garden in Bethnal Green, east London.

Lizzy joined the garden in 2015 and has been on the committee since, serving at different times as Secretary, Treasurer or Chair.

In this capacity she has organised, run and kept records for members' meetings; written and updated policies; organised and co-organised several public events per year; raised over £25,000 in grant income; made hundreds of jars of jam; and managed special projects including creating bird and bee habitats (going on to win Best Garden for Wildlife at Tower Hamlets in Bloom 2022 and 23), and a community cooking club which will result in the publication of a cook book this autumn.

She is pleased to have received the Gardeniser Pro licence as Chair of Cranbrook. "As a demonstration of our commitment to best practice, I hope that this will give potential future partners and funders great confidence in the professional way in which we organise ourselves although we are a voluntary unincorporated organisation."
